LightWave Cleans Up at 55th Emmy Awards

Congratulations to our Emmy® award winning friends and family! We've posted some images from the broadcast of the Creative Arts Emmys, presented on Friday, September 19, 2003.

The Special Visual Effects category was dominated by LightWave 3D users this year, with the award for Outstanding Special Visual Effects for a Series going to Firefly: Serenity. The visual effects were completed by Zoic Studios; artists include: Emile Edwin Smith, Kyle Toucher, Rocco Passionino, Jarrod Davis, Lee Stringer, Terry Naas, Chris Jones, Kristen Leigh Branan, and Loni Peristere. Emile Edwin Smith is featured on the Advanced Explosion Techniques video from Desktop Images.

The award for Outstanding Special Visual Effects for a Miniseries, Movie or Special went to Frank Herbert's Children of Dune on the Sci-Fi channel, with effects done by Area 51. Congratulations to the artists: Ernest Farino, Tim McHugh, Vit Komrzy, Andrew Harlow, Chris Zapara, Don L. McCoy, Barry Howell, Michael Hoover, and Glenn Campbell. Don McCoy is currently in production for his up coming series for Desktop Images. More to come!

A special congratulations is also in order for NewTek's LightWave 3D, which was awarded a 2003 Emmy® Engineering Award, given for technical improvements or innovations so extensive that they affect the transmission, recording or reception of television. NewTek's Tim Jenison, Donetta Colboch, Jamie Finch, and William Vaughan were in attendance at the ceremonies to receive this special award.
